Bandits and mutants serve as the player's main enemies for much of the game, and later races, although id Software has hinted at some sort of significant change around the halfvvay point in the storyline, vvhere races become relevant.The player emerges into this setting after being preserved inside an underground shelter called an Ark. The Arks are the direct result of the Eden Project, a massive international undertaking in vvhich hundreds of Arks (cryogenic pods) vvere sealed under the surface of the Earth with tvvelve people inside each. Each passenger possessed a special ability or trait that, combined with those of the other members, vvould help them rebuild society. The Eden Project, however, vvas far less successful than hoped. The player's Ark in particular is in sorry shape upon the start of the game - all of the other residents of the player's Ark are dead (presumably because of the impact), and the equipment of the Ark is destroyed as vvell, and so the player vvakes up alone and uninformed. VVith no memory of his identity or objective, the player is forced to head for the surface to find sustenance and allies.

he first time I saw this one, I thought to myself, "OK they ran out of
ideas". However, it turns out to be one of the coolest battles yet. The
colossus is the smallest one yet (the size of, say, a van as opposed to
the size of an office building), but by far the most aggressive,
charging wildly and swiping at you like a small rodent. To make things
worse, this bugger is armored from head to toe and shows no vital points
whatsoever. You have to crack its armor. But how?
Notice the four raised fireplaces along the walls. Climb up one of them
(one of the precious few safe places you can find) and have the colossus
ram into it (little to no coaxing needed). A piece of wood should break
off and land on the floor. Quickly grab it and jump back up onto the
fireplace, and swing it at the fire to ignite it. You now have a torch.
And what's this? You jump back down and suddenly this brute doesn't look
so tough. In fact it's terrified of fire and will back away from you
pathetically. Just get it to back up until it falls off the edge of the
cliff, and it will land on a rock formation below, cracking the armor on
its back and exposing its vital point. Now comes the fun part. You have
to jump down onto its back, and hold on for dear life as the battle
turns into a speeding rodeo.
Mafia 2 will also include a physical destruction model for cars featuring broken glass, exploding gas tanks and detailed body damage. Vehicles will have to be refueled at gas stations, and overtime will develop a thick coat of dirt and dust from your antics on the road, removable at a number of Empire City's car washes.Players will be able to strengthen their characters by eating at local restaurants a la Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC, PS2, Xbox), and change clothes at boutiques to evade pursuers.
